Ascent Weekend: “Award winning Artist who hates to doodle”

ASCENT WEEKEND.

What do I say but unbelievable? There are a few surprises I won’t be sharing here to keep them secret for future Ascent attendees, but know there was some crazy, crazy shit that went down.

Let’s tell it through a 72 hour Snapchat story….

What would I be if I wasn’t hella meta?

These views are high key my favorite. I always pick the window seat.

It was quite a lot to come out of the BART station to run smack into the middle of a crowd, surrounded by some of the tallest buildings I’d ever seen, being yelled at by a christian with a microphone, dance troupes sliding their way across the bricks…

We had to give our lives in a 6 word story. Mine was “Award winning artist who hates doodling.” A completely true statement. I don’t even like drawing, really. By the end of the weekend, though, I was so hyped up on creativity I had doodled all over the journal they gave us! Who knew college could be a healthy thing?

Gotta love these Snapchat filters. Not to mention the view!

The awesome part is that we had an Indian student who could explain about the God we see here, so we weren’t just white agnostics or christians shooting in the dark like the groups I’m usually in.

Our murallllllllll, just finished. Idea: through time, loss of culture and color, left to right. Inspired by gentrification in the Mission District.

Analyzing our mural in a simulated class session. I’m the fifth vid feed from the top left.

They hung all the murals, and ours was on the first floor in the lobby/living room!

Best. Ramen. Ever. (Mostly because all the bacon options.)

I’m really looking forward to living with these peeps!

We went to a nearby park as part of one of the ‘clubs’ of Minerva.

Usually, temps below 70° are enough to make me refuse the outdoors… but this time, it was extremely enjoyable!

Thank goodness for GPS on my phone and the nice woman who helped me figure out which train to catch or I might still be in San Fran. (Not the worst, but hey)

DID YOU KNOW SAN FRANCISCO IS SURROUNDED BY WATER. REAL WATER THAT DOES NOT SINK INTO THE  GROUND. DOES NOT EVAPORATE. it even does the wave thing.

Normally when I see these planes, I imagine all the people who aren’t me and will never be me on them. This time, it struck me that I’ll be buying a ticket to board this colored craft in a year’s time!

It was a wonderful trip. I am head over heels in love with my fellow class of 2020. Rarely do you meet such interesting, passionate, thoughtful, deliberate, carefree, thinking, change maker people your own age who think of you the same.

As you may have guessed, I enrolled in Minerva today. I cannot imagine staying here where I realized I am rather unhappy compared to what I could be, and I cannot imagine not being around these people to watch them grow up and solve world problems. I cannot see myself anywhere else. <3
